See Our Delicious Dahl Recipe.

Wow what a delicious dahl recipe! The Indian name for this Dahl delight is Chana dal. The sweet and nutty flavor of these yellow lentils is light and easy to cook. Another of our wonderful dal recipes. This is like being in an Indian food store! See the Dahl recipe below

Makes 4 side dish servings

Ingredients:

Yellow Lentils… 1 cup

Olive oil… 2 tablespoons

Onion… 1/2 cup finely chopped heads up with the onion

Ginger fresh… 1 teaspoon minced or chopped

Garlic fresh… 1 teaspoon minced

Salt… to taste ½ to 1 teaspoon

Turmeric… ½ teaspoon (can be doubled more or less to make it spicier)

Garam Masala… 1 teaspoon (can be doubled to make it spicier)

Lime juice fresh (optional)… 1 tablespoon

Fresh Cilantro – Coriander is another name… 2 tablespoons finely chopped

Cayenne pepper... 1/8 teaspoon or more if you like it hotter

Preparation and Cooking Instructions

1.Always sort through lentils and remove any little stones (A piece of India that needs sorting) and clumps of earth.Clean and wash until water runs clear. Add 6 cups of water and soak lentils for 2 hours (drain water). If you cook in a crock pot for 10 hours on low it does not need soaking! 2.In a heavy-bottomed 6-quart pot, bring 4 cups of water to boil.Add yellow lentils and let boil on high heat for 5 minutes.Reduce to low heat, cover and let it simmer for 30 minutes until soft and all the water is evaporated. Or just skip to #3 and use a crock pot to make your sauce and add water to washed lentils and then add sauce. Mix. Cook for 10 hours on low. Sooooooooooo easy!(This is the wonder of Crossing Cultures!) 3.Heat the saucepan and add olive oil. Sauté onions until dark golden brown on medium heat. This is such a great dahl recipe!Add ginger and garlic and stir-fry for 1 minute. Add Tomatoes and cook until oil separates. 4. Add Turmeric, Garam Masala and salt, stir-fry for 2 minute. 5. Add sauce to lentils and stir. Add Cayenne for heat if desired 6.Add lime juice, cilantro and mix gently, cover, and turn the heat off.
